The Belmont Stakes: What to Know

Posted by Darragh Farrelly on Jun 6, 2016, 11:08:00 AM
The third and final leg of the Triple Crown takes place this Saturday (June 11) at Belmont Park.

Belmont Park is located in Elmont, NY, half an hour from downtown Manhattan. Getting to the racetrack itself might seem like the biggest race of the day. Your best option is to take the train. The Long Island Rail Road provides extended service to and from the track all day. Tickets can be purchased on the day of travel or in advance, and are priced depending on what zone you are traveling from.

For those of you who haven’t already purchased your official ticket package for the event, Gold and Silver clubhouse packages are still available to buy.

Gold Clubhouse (Starting at $899 per person) — Includes amenities and access to the Belmont Stakes Diamond Room, as well as premium open bar and access to the 3rd Floor Clubhouse and a bird’s eye view of the finish line.

Silver Clubhouse (Starting at $649 per person) —  Includes amenities and access to the Belmont Stakes Diamond Room, premium open bar, entertainment and access to the 2nd Floor Clubhouse.

Preakness winner Exaggerator enters this race as strong favorite. His strength and timing in claiming the second leg of the Triple Crown proved vital, and it is hard to look past him in this year’s Belmont Stakes. In what is the third and final leg of the Triple Crown, Exaggerator and Lani are the only two horses in the field to have competed in the previous two. Lani’s form has been indifferent to say the least. A solid showing of fifth place in the Preakness Stakes suggests he is heading in the right direction, but on paper, this looks a stretch too far.

Suddenbreakingnews looks like the most obvious contender away from the race favorite. Trainer Donnie Von Hemel’s decision to skip race two of the Triple Crown in favor of the Belmont, was, in his eyes, “the best thing for the horse”. His freshness coming into the race suggests he has every chance, and if anybody is to beat Exaggerator, expect Suddenbreakingnews to be right up there.

Dress to impress! There are some sections of Belmont Park which require men to wear collared shirts, where shorts and short-sleeved shirts are not allowed. Gents, your style guide awaits you. For the ladies, hats are encouraged – not only from a fashion standpoint, but also protects you from the sun. Bright colors, floral prints or both? Ladies, get a guide to your fashion essentials right here!

With this year’s race just a few short days away now and due to the race’s popularity, tickets to the event can be sometimes like gold dust. How do I get tickets to the 2017 event? Right here! Attend the 2017 Belmont Stakes in style with one of our official ticket packages!
